PowerCat® Factory Tour

Tour the PowerCat® Factory

PowerCat® Marine are boat manufacturers in Australia and specialise in fiberglass powered catamarans based out of Queensland.  Please see below for a tour of our PowerCat® factory.

1. Mould Preparation

Factory Tour 1 The quality & finish that makes PowerCat® Marine's power boats unique starts here.. Mould preparation! The moulds, from which the boat is made, are intensively polished & inspected to ensure a smooth & glossy finish.

2. Gelcoating

Factory Tour 2 The gelcoat is then sprayed into the polished moulds and forms the outer surface and colour of a PowerCat®.

3. First Pass

Factory Tour 3 The fibreglass is then sprayed onto the gelcoat with a chemically balanced mix of glass, resin & catalyst by chopper gun, giving a uniform thickness that makes the PowerCat® stronger & more durable. The resin used in the 1st pass is a vinyl ester resin giving further protection against osmosis.

4. Second Pass

Factory Tour 4 To give added strength, an additional woven matt of fibreglass is added to the laminate and painstakingly rolled smooth to remove all air bubbles & to ensure an even distribution of glass. Overlaps of glass are added at this stage to high stress areas to provide greater strength where most needed.

5. Bulkhead & Bearer System

Factory Tour 5 A series of fibreglass bulkheads forming several water tight compartments in each sponson, are fitted inside the hull. This gives further structural strength. Then a series of solid glass cross-bearers are placed across the hull to support the floor & deck. Fuel & water tanks made from marine grade aluminium are fitted into place between the bulkheads, and are foamed into position to prevent movement.

Factory Tour 5 After the boat has cured in the mould, the boat is then removed to reveal the high quality gelcoat gloss finish. It is then trimmed ready for the deck to be fitted.

6. Mould Release

Factory Tour 6 After the boat has cured in the mould, the boat is then removed to reveal the high quality gelcoat gloss finish. It is then trimmed ready for the deck to be fitted.

7. Honeycomb Floor Section

Factory Tour 7 A state of the art honeycomb reinforced floor is then applied to the floor liner giving PowerCat® its revolutionary strength & lightweight construction.

8. Deck Section

Factory Tour 8 The deck section which incorporates the floor liner is manufactured in the same manner as the hull. The deck & hull are then joined together awaiting accessory fitout.

9. Assembly

Factory Tour 9 Marine grade 316 S/Steel deck hardware, windscreen, hardtop, engines, seating modules, dinette modules etc are all fitted to the boat at this stage.

10. Pre Delivery

Factory Tour 10 All systems are thoroughly tested on the factory floor prior to water-test. The boat is then water-tested for further ensurance of safe, trouble free boating.

11. Shrink Wrapping

Factory Tour 11 For boats being delivered out of our local area, they are Shrink Wrapped to protect your new PowerCat® during transit.
